About

Small Beginnings

Marina Dawson is a young Canadian artist studying at the Alberta University Of The Arts in the BFA Drawing program since 2021. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Marina provides a unique perspective on topics surrounding gender, misogyny, LGBTQ2+ issues, conservationism and what it means to be human through the lens of the Western Canadian Experience. Marina works primarily in Acrylic, India Ink, Charcoal, Oil paint, RHINO7 and 8, Blender, Z brush and Prusa 3D printing software. Marina Dawson works instinctively with her materials and allows the mediums to work organically and dictate the piece's outcome while still utilizing calculated traditional painting and drawing methods. Marina creates Landscape paintings and portraiture in a unique style inspired by fauvism, neo-expressionism and impressionism. Marina Dawson is inspired by artists such as Anselm Keifer, Agnes Martin and Wilf Perreault. She hopes to become an active member of Calgary’s Contemporary Art scene and a notable Western Canadian contemporary artist.
